    Sounds kind of like a mix breed between a story carding meeting and a release planning meeting. Sometimes called a “discovery meeting.”

    Good points here. There needs to be a little bit more work up front by the PO’s to set the vision for the product.

The visioning activities could take place in form of a user story writing workshop and an initial release planning meeting if the newness and the complexity of the product are modest. For an innovative new product, investing several weeks to carry out upfront marketing activities, exploration and prototyping may be necessary.

  5. Hi Roman, Is this essentially the RUP inception I.e. Scope setting?

  6. Hi Arran, While there are some similarities between visioning and the RUP inception phase, the two do differ. Please have a look at my page 11 of my presentation “Envisioning your Product,” http://www.romanpichler.com/articles/pdfs/EnvisioningYourProduct.pdf for a more comprehensive view of visioning. Having said that, one of the visioning results is the product vision that describes the high-level scope of the new product or the next product version.
